About

Henry Ssali is a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto. His core research interests examine whether policy is loosely managed, and how institutional policies affect street-level bureaucrats in higher education. He holds a master’s degree in education leadership and policy from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Toronto. Having served in several volunteer and leadership positions at the University of Toronto and beyond, Henry was recognized in 2021 as an emerging leader by Civic Action Leadership Foundation. He has also been awarded several accolades for his social justice work including the Arbor Award (U of T’s most prestigious volunteer award). Henry is currently serving as a Member of the University of Toronto Graduate Education Council (GEC), an academic advisory and approval body responsible for academic policy and regulations for the School of Graduate Studies at U of T
He also serves as Co-President at the Canadian Committee of Graduate Students in Education (CCGSE), a graduate student caucus within Canada’s national network of educational researchers, the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE). Henry is the current President of the Leadership, Higher, and Adult Education (LHAE) Departmental Students’ Association (DSA), and the Vice-President Internal for the OISE Alumni Association. He is the Founder and Executive Director for the University of Toronto African Alumni Association, and the Proprietor of Paramount Education, an international students recruitment agency. Henry’s expertise in community building and impact was tapped into during the creation of the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Higher Education.
