Ian is currently a Master of Social Work Student through Charles Sturt University, Australia. Ian works full time as a child protection caseworker with the New South Wales Department of Communities and Justice working in a highly professional, legislative environment where he continues to remain enthusiastic and always holding hope for clients and colleagues
Current role is within the statutory body responsible for all child protection matters within the state of New South Wales (Australia) and as such holds a significant responsibility to deliver the highest degree of professionalism to the most vulnerable of families. During time in this role, he successfully completed the case worker development program, an intensive program allowing him to develop skills in areas such as motivational interviewing, dignity driven practice and working with First Nation families.
Prior to this role he spent much of his working career as a police officer, both in the state of New South Wales, before being selected to transfer to the Australian Federal Police. Throughout his time as police officer, he regularly engaged with and worked alongside many social welfare services and families caught in the justice system.
Gilbert Ian graduated in Social Science (Criminal Justice) encouraging him to see the complex issues impacting on persons within the criminal justice system and this has allowed him to practice seeking more holistic approaches to problem solving issues in his area.
